COACHING OPPORTUNITIES WITH GCSTO

GCSTO is always looking for additional coaches to help out with our program. If you are interested in coaching with one of America's top teams, please read on. Although we rarely lose one of our regular head level coaches, job transfers and all do sometimes create opportunities for new coaches to get involved. As well, we use a tremendous number of assistant coaches on deck helping out with these head level coaches so we are always looking for individuals interested in getting started in that capacity. This allows us to have 2 coaches working with 3 lanes of swimmers at each level and makes it extremely rewarding to coach as you are given circumstances that will actually allow you to use your coaching talents to actually work with the kids instead of just working to control them as often occurs in overcrowded and understaffed circumstances. Whether it is once per week or four times per week we might well need the help and will work with your current personal schedule to get you involved with our program. With GCSTO you will be an active, contributing member of the staff and will have first opportunity to be considered for a head level coaching position if one does open up. Our assistant coaches are paid up to $20 per hour based on the successful completion of several of our internal coaches education courses and we cover all certification classes that are needed as well as all registration credentials that are needed. USA Swimming will also conduct a background check on all applicants which will be reimbursed by GCSTO to you upon success completion of this background check. The cost of this background check currently is $21.

INSTRUCTIONAL OPPORTUNITIES WITH 

"The Greater Columbus Swim School"

the instructional program of the

Greater Columbus Swim Team of Ohio

We are always looking for quality instructors to work with our program. All GCSS instructors must be CPR, FA & LG certified (minimum requirements). As well, we require that all of our instructors review our own "Instructor's Training Course" (ITC) and complete an ITC test compiling a perfect score. This course deals with everything from our course content to procedures on making physical contact with participants to the actual safety guidelines of the facilities that we use. As well, we have each new instructor serve a 2-3 hour apprenticeship whereby they volunteer to teach along side of one of our other instructors so that we can see how they interact with participants and so that they can see how our program works... or flows if you will. Our instructors are paid up to $19 per hour based on their successful completion of 2 more internal education requirements... an in-service held to ensure the complete understanding of the skills and drills used within our program and all 4 chapters/strokes of our Greater Columbus Swim School "Skills & Drills" course. Our classes are kept very small (3-5 students max), which makes teaching a more more pleasant experience. With the many locations that we have we are in much need of additional instructors to keep up with our continued growth. If you are interested in becoming an instructor with our program, please send a brief cover letter and/or resume' to Steve Nye, GCSTO, PO Box 30483, Gahanna, OH 43230.
