Just "Kicking It" at the Cincy Fall Challenge! 

This Is Greater Columbus...

If you are looking for anything in terms of aquatic programming whereby you are assured that quality comes first and that the needs of the participants remain the driving force for how a program is structured then you have found a home. Approaching our 4th decade under the same leadership, Greater Columbus has become a name to know in central Ohio due to the tremendous efforts of hundreds of professionals, volunteers & participants. Through their quality, this program has stood the test of time!



Fall/Winter Tryout Information

Tryouts for our fall/winter season start are on Mondays & Tuesdays, August 2, 3, 9 & 10 from 5:30-6:45 p.m. at the Gahanna Swimming Pool located at 148 Parkland Drive, Gahanna, OH 43230. All athletes between the ages of 6 and 18 are welcomed to try out for the team. Athletes should have at least 3 of the 4 competitive strokes at the younger levels. Athletes will participate in a clinic style practice to determine their skill level and where it is that they will fit into the team. It's important for the new families to know that WE are the ones actually trying out as it is our job to demonstrate to the parents and athletes involved that GCSTO truly offers the quality that they are looking for in terms of a club program. Each night we will have a parent's meeting to discuss the structure of GCSTO so that new families thoroughly understand what the can expect from our program. We will then have another week in September for these new athletes to try us out so that they can go to their respective pool to better see how things operate at that location and with that staff. 
ANYONE INTERESTED IN PARTICIPATING IN THESE TRYOUTS MAY SEND COACH STEVE NYE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION SO THAT THEY CAN BE ADDED TO OUR TRYOUT ROSTER:
Child's name & age, Parent's names, Parent's telephone number, parent's email contact information & your current summer league pool

Please send that information to stevenye@sbcglobal.net right away and we'll get you onto our roster. If you happen to not be able to come to tryouts in August, you are welcome to come to our September tryouts if space on the team still exists. Let coach Nye know if you fall into this category when you send him your information.  
  
GCSTO Coach, Dave Shumaker, Chosen as Ohio Swimming’s “Age Group Coach of the Year”

Each year the coaches of Ohio vote on a club team’s staff that they feel have done an outstanding job developing the young athletes of this sport not only as swimmers but as quality athletes in all ways. GCSTO’s staff was awarded this honor this past weekend at the Ohio Swimming Age Group Championship Meet when GCSTO Coach Dave Shumaker accepted the honor of Ohio Swimming’s “Age Group Coach of the Year”. Dave epitomizes everything there is about a loyal and dedicated coach and about what this staff is all about in terms of hard work, persistency, understanding, teamwork, integrity, honor and simple consistent accomplishment of excellence. As a staff member of 18 years we are ALL proud to have Dave honored with Ohio Swimming’s “Age Group Coach of the Year”! Congratulations Dave… and THANK YOU for everything that you do!

GCSTO Chosen As Local Partner in USA Swimming's Make a Splash Campaign

Make a Splash  is a national child-focused water safety initiative created by the USA Swimming Foundation. It works by aligning the nation’s top learn-to-swim resources in an effort to save lives. Make a Splash educates parents through a national awareness campaign, saves lives by joining forces with grassroots learn-to-swim programs and reaches thousands of children through wide-reaching in-school materials. Parents Pick  GCSTO Selected as Winner of NICKELODEON'S PARENTS' PICK AWARD
GCSTO's Swim School was recently named the winner of this award as the best in our class in the central Ohio area. You can go to PARENTSSPICK and see more on this and other award categories. Note that we are honored to have received this award and will continue to strive to make our programming first class and programming of which you are proud to be a part! Creating the Difference!

                                                                                                        
The Club Excellence Program: This program deals with the performance levels of the older athletes on the team in comparison to the rest of the nation. Of the thousands of clubs in USA Swimming, only 200 clubs were screened for such recognition. GCSTO was first recognized in 2007 as a Bronze Medal Club in USA Swimming, repeated in 2008 and has qualified, once again, in 2009. USA Swimming’s Club Recognition Program:We have now qualified for level 3 in USA Swimming's Club Recognition Program! Recognition at this level deals with club administration and organization and it is no easy task to achieve. Congrats to all of our swimmers and coaches on this achievement. Virtual Club ChampionshipsToyota Virtual Club Championships:This system of ranking the thousands of clubs in USA Swimming is based on overall team performance in relation to the rest of the nation. Last year GCSTO made the top 100 on this list (as 100th) with 157,104 points. This year, the team is sitting still within the top 150 at 135th in this year of regrowth with 151,544 points. Click on the icon for more information about this program from USA Swimming.
